Bruce Perens (the guy who wrote the definition of Open-Source) has written an open letter to the Novell CEO, Ron Hovsepian. The topic is the "pact" between Microsoft and Novell and the betrayal against the free software world. The letter contains a petition that everyone can sign and express his feelings. Many, many, many very important (and even more less important) people already have signed the petition and added their comments ...

Thanks Amaranth. It's always good to present both sides. Are there any links to discussion either pro or con. This is important to the entire open source community and I for one haven't developed an opinion on this yet.

I'd also be interested in some more information from the "contra"-side. The page Amaranth has posted doesn't express anything about _why_ the author is against Bruce Perens' petition. Also the people who signed the contra-petition didn't give any info apart from their names. I don't find that really convincing.

Honestly - I already have a decision on that topic, but I give Novell the chance to work on their agreement and maybe do some fine-tuning. Everyone deserves a second chance (but as far as I have read, Novell don't really regret anything and find their deal absolutely o.k.). Suse-Linux was always "my" german distribution but I switched to Ubuntu when Novell bought Suse - and the only thing I miss is the green color ;)

PJ over at Groklaw (http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20061107194320461) is also against the pact.

OTOH PJ has said in the past that "The Novell lawyers are true ninjas.", I hope that Microsoft are worried; as thier lawyers are known to suck.
