I've been having some issues with this Sidebar plugin, and I have no idea of Python whatsoever, but I find very easy to read almost any kind of code.
The problem that i had is that the screenlet loaded, but nothing showed; so while sneaking through the code, images and SVG, i've found out that in the SVGs of many skins, the PNG image that was linked from inside, was linked using an absolute path, so I edited them in some cases, and in others I just used the PNG image. In both cases I had to google for the PNG image's sources.
I'm uploading it so that you can try it and see if it works now. Of course I take absolutely no credit for it, and i can erase the file if the author desires so.

BTW, the Sidebar folder inside, should be extracted to your ~/.screenlets or to /usr/local/share/screenlets in order for the screenlet to load the images...
Edit: this is the original author's one (Whise): http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Sidebar+Screenlet+%28Vista%27ish+look%29?content=6 3172
