I would like to be able to scale minimized windows, anyone wants to make a patch for this? ;)

The short answer is that the feature will be available shortly.

The long answer is that at the moment once a window is minimized the texture is not available, this means that if a window is minimized compiz cannot see what it looks like. Beryl worked around this (I think) by temporaraly unminimizing the windows to get the texture, and then minimizing it again afterwards. This wasnt a nice way to do it and it often resulted in problems. David has now changed this so the texture can be read even if the window is not visible. This means things like this are now 10 times easier, so expect these sorts of things after the next bunch of changes.

Whoah! My mind screems miniwin and dock!

So, does this mean we can expect _nicely_ done minimised wins in switcher?

That would be very nice indeed!

I just had a quick hack on the switcher code and it looks like it would be easy but there must be a blocker somewhere. I just removed the code which checks if it is minimized and the minimized windows appeared in the switcher but only their border was shown :(

Safe to say, all the minimized window requests will be in a Compiz of the future (although maybe shortly is slightly optimistic/hopeful) :)

So is this going in/in now? (I'm running a development snapshot)

Hi,

i just joined your forum to get some news on the implementation of this feature. (got here from Scale Effect Compiz-Fusion vith minimized windows (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=481038))

I used it on 'Beryl' a few months ago (Ubuntu Feisty Fawn), because of stability issues i dumped it again. now Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon implements a very stable distribution of 'Compiz Fusion' and i'm really missing the feature (Plugins/Scale (http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Plugins/Scale)) to scale minimized windows as well.
As this seems to be a important issue for a lot of people, i wanted to ask if you make progress on this topic? ;)

As far as I know, this needs changes in X, to keep the window pixmaps once a window is minimized (when a window is minimized, the pixmap is destroyed, which means we can't get a texture to use)

However, if you don't minimize a window, but use something like shelf instead (see thread "Shelf on minimize" or similar), you still have the pixmap and therefore the texture (only problem is that shelf doesn't play nicely with the animations from shift/scale/etc)

I think the real question should be "can we at least have the icon?" in the mean time. Scale just completely ignores minimized windows, so can the option to not completely ignore them be added? Speaking of which, I'm bored, so... Off to actually go see if I can do this for myself...

hi,

i tried to activate 'shelf' following Shelf on minimize (http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=7263). the computer freezed and didn't wake up again. however the threadowners comment that minimize acctually got obsolete helped me a lot.

my workaround is that i deactivated the minimize button via compiz fusion and activated automatic opacity in-/decrease when a window is in or out of focus. now i can manage my windows with the 'scale' option i placed in my lower left corner of the screen.

Thank you for your comments and the update on the topic! by the way, nice forum, i will visit you again :)
