Zootreeves, can we maybe have a bugs-forum? I think it would be good to keep bug-reports in one place because atm there is no real place to post them. That way the community could have a look at bugs first and try to fix them immediately (at least the smaller ones) - if bugs are too serious or difficult to be identified, they can then be added to the official bug-tracker.

I agree, I think it might help upstream a bit if people post/ask about bugs here first before submitting to the bug tracker. Should i put it in the users or developers section?

I think it fits better into the development section .. (open bugs=needed development)

I think the problem is that all users see their problem as a bug, 99% of the time it is either not a bug or it is a known issue. The real bugs should be filtered here and then sent to the mailing list and/or added to the xorg bug tracker, that way David is aware of them and can fix them quickly. The transient problem was handled like this and it is now fixed :)

Just look at the beryl forums for the problems of reporting bugs on a forum. They now have bug reports/help requests in the general notices. I think the current Q&A section works well at the moment, people seem to know where to go. I remember my first time at the beryl forums, I couldnt work out exactly which section I should be posting in for help.

Maybe you're right, most end users tend to think their problem is a bug. But the Q&A-section should be a place where everyone can get help on anything and the Bugs-section should be a place where identified bug-reports can be posted. If users post bugs in Q&A or questions in Bugs, it's still easy to move the post to the right forum - with a clear description it should be clearly understandable where to post what. I think we shouldn't make the same fault as the beryl-project and convert this user- _and_ developer-forum into a pure end-user forum ...

Ok I'll leave it how it is for the time being, In future If it becomes apparent we need a new section for bugs I can always make it then.
